So, many of you might not know about this startling festival held in the city of Cannes. Unlike the Cannes film festival’s is not that heard of even though it’s famous. It is the festival where colours of creativity burst in plethora. It happens every year and this was its 64th year of celebrating creativity. Each June around 11,000 registered delegates from 90 countries visit the Festival to celebrate the best of creativity in brand communication, discuss industry issues and network with one another. The week’s activities include four award ceremonies as well as an opening and closing gala and to know what the new trend in the market this year. People from tech, creative communications, design and entertainment rendezvous here. As the website says that the festival has been supporting creativity in branded communication since 1954.
“We believe creativity can be a powerful force for business, for change and for good in the world. Our mission is to share this knowledge and help make the case for creativity globally by demonstrating the tangible commercial, social and cultural impact it can have.“ This has been their motto since its inception.
So why exactly it is important for us, as media students or aspirants to know about this fest and what goes on there? As a part of the media industry, creativity is integral, and this festival is all about influencing it.
It has meets of the world’s best communications experts and creators of advertisements and designers and artists.

This particular festival was inspired from the Cannes Film Festival as an idea for giving recognition to the advertising sector and creativity. The festival has awards ceremony. their juries are drawn from experts in each field.
The Cannes Lions jury judges content from various categories like Film, Film Craft, Media, Press, Outdoor, Cyber, Promo & Activation, Direct, Design, Radio, Mobile, Branded Content & Entertainment, PR, Creative Effectiveness, and Titanium and Integrated.
It even introduced a new category -Innovation Lions, which are supposed to “honour the technology and innovation which facilitates creativity.
